Simply Reading

Today marks the first time I've managed to spend 7 consecutive days here in NY all semester :-). You never realize how much the little interactions you have with people you know on a daily basis matter, until you miss out on it. I've especially missed the fellowship-- I've found that not being able to go to church or to participate in any of my usual IV fellowship activities has made it difficult for me for me to keep up my spiritual growth.

When I received this devotional today (from the daily devo), it highlighted one of the things that has been frustrating me recently about my own quiet times. Unfortunately, the inconsistency of my schedule has led to an inconsistency in the amount/quality of the time that I've spent with God in the past month or so. The time that I've spent in the word, has been less than enlightening, and at times, I've found myself doing just what James is warning his audience against.

Keep me in your prayers--

until next time.......

The Daily Devo
by Pastor Steve Baney
James 1:22 "Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says." (NIV)

James is usually very blunt about what he says. He doesn't beat around the bush here, but drives right to his point. Don't kid yourselves. Simply reading to God's word won't do you any good in itself. We need to do something about what we read. The next time you read the Bible, ask yourself this question: What is God trying to teach me now through his word?

Lord, help me to have the strength to act upon what you teach me.
