It's Not About You

It's all about you, Jesus
And all this is for you
For your glory and your fame
It's not about me,
As if you should do things my way
You alone are God
And I surrender, to your ways*

Some of you may recognize this song as one we used to sing in IV. Even if you don't recognize it, how many times have you sang a song like this without really meaning it? I know that for me there are a lot of times when I'd like to think I mean it when I say that I'm surrendering to God's ways, when really what I mean is that "I'm happy to surrender as long as it doesn't interfere with my own selfish desires". What does this mean in terms of a prayer life? If you're anything like me, then it's important to be aware of how we talk to God, and what we should strive for when presenting our requests and desires to him. Remember that just because we've thought about it, and decided that things should turn out a certain way does not mean that it is God's will for things to go according to our plan. Sometimes he lets us go through some trials in order to better prepare us for victory.

Does it hurt sometimes when you do poorly on that paper you spent what seemed like every waking moment on, or when you don't get that job you thought was tailor made for you? of course! but that doesn't mean that God doesn't care about you, and that he's not watching out for you through the process. Remember that in spite of what the world may be telling us, this life is not about us, and how to make the most money so we can buy expensive stuff. It's about developing our own personal relationship with God, and planting seeds by sharing our testimony with others so that they too might begin to seek God.

Lord God,

I thank you for this new opportunity to talk to you. Thank you for being Jehovah Jireh, OUR provider, and for looking out for each and every one of us, even when we turn our backs to you. Father I ask that you create within each of us a spirit of wisdom, such that we might choose to act in ways that glorify you. I pray that our words might be a reflection of our hearts, and that you might remove the fear that often keeps us from "surrendering to your ways". Help us to align our desires with your heart Lord, as it is only by seeking you that we can resist the temptations of the world. Be with my sisters and brothers in Christ as they begin this new day that you have created. I pray your annointing upon each and every one of them, that they might hear a new word from you today Lord. In JESUS' name I pray, Amen.
