What Parents Want

Did you ever see that movie "What Women Want," where Mel Gibson is struck by lightning and suddenly has the ability to hear women's thoughts? Well, this devotional isn't really like that, heh heh.

I remember a sermon that I heard about a year ago based on the following passages from Ephesians/Colossians. After that my mom and I were quick to bring up the appropriate verses about how we should respect our parents and not drive our kids to anger. While we were just joking, it really cut to the heart of the matter. We have a responsibility to our parents just as they have an even greater responsibility towards us.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I know that I don't express my appreciation for what my mother does for me very regularly (outside of her birthday and mother's day). A few days ago I brought up the same issue, with respect to God (26,000 thanks/day or something to that effect) but it is equally applicable to our parents. Think about all of the countless sacrifices they've made, just so that we could be at this school in the first place. While it's true that not all of our parents are responsible for paying our bills and stuff, think about the people who are responsible for all the things you have now, whether it be a teacher who wrote that last minute recommendation or a neighbor who encouraged you to do your best when you were feeling especially down.

Take some time out to say thanks :-).
