Three Ingredients

Today is the national day of prayer. I know this is coming out kinda late but take some time extra time out to pray today (i think you're supposed to do it at like noon or 12:30, but anytime is better than nothing :P). Pray for our nation, NYC, this campus....whatever God puts on your heart.

Also, take some time out to think about today's devotional, because I think that love and self-discipline are two of the harder lessons to learn. Speaking from experience (spending ~35 hours over 2 days with 3 other people putting together a "semester long" project), love and self-discipline (along with patience) are easily tested. The minute you think you've got it figured out is when you need God's help the most. Ask him to show you what it really means to love someone unconditionally.

Three Ingredients

2 Timothy 1:7 "For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline." (NIV)

When these three ingredients are combined - power, love, and self-discipline, Satan better watch his back! God's spirit gives us armor (see Ephesians 6). God prepares us to be able to stand and fight in spiritual battles. But lets not get overly aggressive. In order to be "more than conquerors" we must also have love and self-
discipline.

Father, help me to be full of your power, love, and self-discipline.

Holy Bible, New International Version.
